Get to know a one-of-a-kind story of the Ribnica Valley, which is known for a rich handicraft heritage and people who have always lived in harmony with nature. The proverbially mischievous locals will show you their skills, worldly wisdom, as well as their tasty food and drinks.
Your day-long adventure will start at the Ribnica Handicraft Centre, which is home to the Museum of Ribnica’s permanent exhibition “Woodenware and Pottery”.
Accompanied by a guide, you will learn about the local crafts and the woodenware makers’ unique way of life, which is reflected on different levels and in different periods of local people’s existence.
The programme will continue with a basket-weaving workshop – you will get to keep a basket as a souvenir. A basket weaver will guide you through the basket-making process and together you will discover the world of handicraft heritage.
Then you will pick up electric bicycles or take a walk to the village of Hrovača, to the Škrabec Homestead, where you will learn more about the Ribničan bean and simultaneously taste culinary bean specialties. You spend the night at the Škrabec Homestead.
The next day, not far away, you will visit the Kojek Beekeeping, where you will be surprised by honey creations.
The programme will continue with a visit to another local, David Lesar, who makes the finest gourmet salamis and has turned salami making into an art form. His company BioSing is synonymous with artisanal, natural cured meat products, which cannot be bought in ordinary shops and are an experience in itself.
